Type II Diabetes - Insulin-Dependent Diabetes

Thursday 31 July 2008 @ 5:05 pm

The term diabetes refers to higher than normal levels of sugar, or glucose, in the blood. Type II diabetes, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes, was commonly referred to as adult onset diabetes until recently when the name no longer accurately describes the population with this disease.

Type II diabetes, in the past, was relegated to the adult population. However, in the new era of ever rising cases of childhood obesity and heart disease, the term adult onset diabetes is quickly becoming a misnomer. The number of children that are presenting to doctors with this disease is rising at epidemic rates.

Unlike Type I diabetes, where there is little to no insulin being produced by the beta cells

Mindfulness - You’re Soaking In It!

    Thursday 31 July 2008 @ 5:03 pm

Looking for a bit more mindfulness in your daily life? Relax. You’re soaking in it!

Perhaps you remember Madge the Manicurist, a television commercial character who commiserates with her clients about their chapped hands. While she is filing the nails of one hand, she conspiratorially confides that her client is actually soaking her other hand in Palmolive dishwashing liquid. After all, “It softens hands while you do the dishes.”

It was a memorable pitch–good visual, element of surprise, great what-it-will-do-for-you line. That commercial, in several variations, ran for nearly thirty years. Jan Miner, the actress who played Madge, died earlier this year at the age of 86, but her persona lives on.

Softening hands is nice, but here’s

The topic of leadership has been and continues to be one of the most vital topics in human history. From ancient civilizations to modern day multi-national corporations, men and women of passion, fervor and zeal have sought to discover the secrets of moving others beyond the gray of their mundane reality to the rich array of colors that embody the palate of the extraordinary life.

Every organization or collection of people, from large to small, requires ardent and skilled leaders. It has been said that everything rises and falls on leadership, and it is true. Every group - families, cities, churches, associations and yes, even nations - fulfills its purposes and potential based on the leadership

        What Is The ADD Diet

        Thursday 31 July 2008 @ 4:04 pm

Exercise The Right Way - The Triceps Pushdown

          Thursday 31 July 2008 @ 3:04 pm

Other articles in this series looked at a number of exercises, mainly from the perspective of developing a comprehensive muscle building program. Sometimes we take things for granted, especially when it comes to performing the basic exercises that constitute the core of most bodybuilders’ training regimes.

It is useful, therefore, to describe in detail the processes involved in actually doing these exercises. This will help beginners to start out using the correct techniques before moving on to potentially more dangerous heavy weights. If it also helps more experienced lifters to redress some of the little faults that have almost imperceptibly crept in over the years, all the better.

In this article we’ll take a close look at

              How Shall We Then Live

              Thursday 31 July 2008 @ 3:01 pm

Qohelet had grown old with time when he delivered his Ecclesiastes and it has since become part of the wisdom literature of the Bible. And it is because of his many years of experience that he adopted the doctrine that all is meaningless, utterly meaningless.

If you were to read Ecclesiastes for the first time, you would probably consider it a rather anomalous account of a man’s thoughts to be found in the Bible. We are disturbed by its lack of literary unity as well as Qohelet’s strange sayings. It does not contain the kind of upbeat, positive message that we want to hear. He dares to suggest that we should cry at birth and rejoice

                Characteristics of a Good Leader

                Thursday 31 July 2008 @ 2:04 pm

It’s interesting to hear the responses from executives when I ask them, “What are the characteristics of a good Leader?”

If I ask that question in a large room of executives, or even upper level managers the answers will be all over the map, and many are conflicting.

A couple of the usual answers are:

              • A leader is someone that empowers those working for him to make their own decisions.
              • A leader is someone who gives clear, direct orders, a take charge person that commands his employees.

The first implies that we let the employees make up their own minds what to do, and how to get the end result. The second implies that we’d better be somewhat of a

Enlightening Your Physical Environment - Color Me Beautiful

                  Thursday 31 July 2008 @ 2:03 pm

Color plays a vital role in our mood, our ability to think and work and our energy level. Surrounding yourself with colors that inspire and seduce you to greater things is a wise investment in your environmental improvement plan. Here are some tips to get you started:

                  1. Paint is the first thought that comes to mind when dealing with color, and with good cause - there is little cheaper and easier in the realm of interior design than a fresh coat of paint, and almost nothing possesses it’s singular ability to so completely alter that aspect of a room or other living area as to render it unrecognizable to the original inhabitants. Paint can pull

Hollywood Weight Loss Secrets - Five Things to Avoid!

                    Thursday 31 July 2008 @ 1:05 pm

                    As an employee of famous fitness star Kathy Smith, personal trainer of many movie stars, and best selling author, it came to my attention of a few things that prevented Hollywood types from losing the weight they wanted. Here they are;

“Exercise Resistance” or ER means a conscious or unconscious block against participating in a regular active program. Studies show that some people have barriers built up from past experiences that give them a negative mindset toward exercise and food. In many cases, this prevents a person from starting or following through on an exercise program.

                    RESENTMENT

I thought the golden years were supposed to be filled with relaxing things to do, not more activities I usually put
