The Fine Art of Smudging

Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 6:13 pm

An Aboriginal Canadian friend of mine who teaches at the Whispering Lodge in Toronto was explaining to me how physical or emotional healing cannot take place until the person is cleansed of any of the following conditions:

1) Emotional conditions such as resentment, bitterness, envy, jealousy and guilt

2) Negative thoughts about others or one’s past or future

3) Negative emotions such as grief, hatred, desire

4) Bad or evil spirits

5) Attachments or negative energy sent to us from other people

In most Aboriginal traditions, a sweat lodge, basically a tent or teepee or cave filled with smoke and heat, is used to remedy the sick person of these conditions. In ancient Rome, buildings called purgatoriums were used for the

    Limited Thought, Limited Experience

    Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 5:26 pm

I was reminded once again the other day about how well we limit ourselves and take on the values of others and their limitations.

I was in one of our morning sales meetings and just barely awake trying to concentrate on other things. The boss was ranting and raving about how few cancellations the sales force was getting. He was calling upon the team to push a little harder and get more cancellations. He was suggesting that a good sales team will have at least 15% sales cancellations (It may have been another figure but I was ignoring it for the most part). But from where I was sitting I couldn’t help but shake my head

The ABC’s Of A Great Life - ‘D’ Is For Discovery

      Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 5:12 pm

The pure and unadulterated joy of discovery is one that is rarely recreated through any other means, natural or otherwise. The thrill of learning something new, of seeing something great and wonderful for the first time or of finding out something amazing about yourself or another that you never knew before is one of the hallmarks of a joyous human existence and its presence or absence in our lives often forms the very tenor and depth of those lives.

For most people, few things are more soul-withering than the thought of a life of boredom, sameness and flat consistency. Yet many of us do not take the time to actively engage in quests of discovery, be

Diabetes 101 What You Need to Know About

        Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 3:17 pm

One of the leading causes of death in the US is diabetes. It affects the way the body uses food after digestion, for growth and energy, known as metabolic disorder. If proper treatment and medication is not administered, at times aggressively, it can lead to fatal complications and can also be seriously disabling. However, proper treatment and preventive measures allow people with diabetes to lead a relatively healthy and normal life, in most cases.

        Knowing Diabetes

Most of the food we eat is broken down into glucose (a form of sugar in blood). Majority of the fuel in the body is supplied by glucose. Cells of our body use this glucose in the blood for growth and

          Managing Stress From Another World

          Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 2:23 pm

Modern stress is habitual, and is something that the vast majority of Americans and Britons succumb to in their material driven lives. Whether mildly or overwhelmingly, stress will cast its powers across most of us at some stage in our lives, often increasingly as we get sucked into a pattern of working and living that gradually strips us of our individuality.

Stress reduction has therefore become a “necessary” antidote industry. We may console ourselves by saying that our lives are fast paced; that this is what modern living is all about and we must pursue it frenetically; that people in those poor countries which have not adopted the Anglo-American way are just backward and will catch

Viagra - Does Viagra Increase the Risk of Heart Attack

            Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 2:13 pm

A new research study has shown that the use of Viagra in men with erectile dysfunction does not increase the short-term risk of heart attack or acute myocardial infarction

Since the launch of Viagra some years ago, the makers have warned us against its use by men with low blood pressure, severe or unstable angina, recent stroke or recent heart attack. But can viagra itself trigger heart attack in a man with other risk factors? This question is important and a new research study has set out to provide the answer.

Large numbers of men were studied during this research project and the risk for heart attack within six hours and twenty four hours of taking Viagra

Weight Loss, Exercise, and Bodybuilding Tips - Keeping Your Body-Fat Low - Part 7 of 10

              Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 2:10 pm

People usually quit weightloss and exercise programs for one of two reasons:
boredom or lack of results, maybe even both!

I cannot explain this, nor did I learn this in a classroom, but twenty years in the
field proves it to me all the time- after about ten weeks the body starts catching
onto what your workout will consist of that day. I believe that your body knows after
awhile exactly what you are going to put it through, adapts to it and stops progress.
This is similar to what your body does with antibiotics. So what do you do when
your body gets bored and feels no results? Quit!

              What is the answer?

                The Opportunity Clock

                Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 12:28 pm

When I was in college, I heard someone say something that has been with me ever since. It was something that demonstrated to me a positive attitude and the choice to take something that most people dread, and change it into a motivating factor.

He called the alarm clock the “opportunity clock.”

When does an alarm go off? When something bad is happening! Well, waking up isn’t bad. Waking up is good! In fact, waking up is an opportunity. Each new day brings with it the opportunity to enjoy our families and other people. It enables us the opportunity to work hard, and earn a living that will enable us in turn to provide for others and

How Santa Makes Out His Christmas List

                  Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 12:26 pm

How Does Santa Make Out His List?

I’ll let you in on a secret: I know Santa Claus. And I received a letter from him with his Christmas list.

                  “Dear Kristin,

“Thank you for the homemade cookies last year. For some reason, people seem to forget that I’m not planning to lose weight, thank you very much. I don’t have a peanut allergy and I’m not lactose intolerant. Up here at the North Pole, we don’t get nonsense like that. But you wouldn’t believe some of the notes I get in lieu of cookies.

“‘Santa, you’re too fat, get real, love Dr. PhilDear Santa, you’re in violation of the no-fly zone, signed, the CoalitionDear Santa, you’re using slave labor

Treatments That Offer Hope To Hair Loss Sufferers

                    Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 12:12 pm

Many people experiencing premature hair loss simply resign themselves to a process that is as inevitable as growing old. This is a positive and healthy reaction to what is a natural process for many. But for others the onset of premature balding or excessive hair loss represents a traumatic development that causes untold worry and suffering. This too is a legitimate reaction regardless of whether the hair loss is caused by hereditary factors or some other more complex cause.

Should these sufferers just grin and bear it? No, they should not because there are a number of potentially effective treatments they could utilize, depending on the nature of their hair loss. In this article I will
