Taiwan’s Modern Toilet Restaurant

Wednesday 7 October 2009 @ 7:01 pm

So, I have taken a slight hiatus from blogging. Life has been hectic all around. I feel physically and mentally drained at times ;) I think I need to go back to the south of France. But I digress…

My boyfriend sent this to me and I could not resist sharing it with you all. Check out the latest restaurant in Taiwan. The theme: toilets! Who would have ever thought to put the two together? Why? I ask you, why?

Bizarre Salt Hotel: Don’t Lick the Walls

        Saturday 29 August 2009 @ 7:02 pm

salt-hotel-1One of the most bizarre hotels in the world is entirely made of salt and is one of Bolivia’s key tourist attractions.

The Salt Hotel, also known as Hotel de Sal Playa was built in 1993 by a salt artisan and is almost entirely created from salt. The walls are made of salt blocks and are held together with a cement-like substance which is made out of salt and water. The furniture is carved out of salt, including the beds. The only trace of modern materials are the toilets, roof and of course the lighting. It has 15 bedrooms, a dining room, a living room and a bar.

Only one thing is not allowed: wall licking.

Great Tips: Things a Burglar WON’T Tell You

          Saturday 29 August 2009 @ 7:00 pm

burglar1I came across the below 13 tips (oh the irony of that number) on things a burglar looks for before robbing your house. These were pulled directly from readersdigest.com

          1. Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator.

          2. Hey, thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my return a little easier.

          3. Love those flowers. That tells me you have taste … and taste means there are nice things inside. Those yard toys your kids leave out always make me wonder what type of gaming system they have.

          4. Yes, I really do look for newspapers piled up on the driveway. And I might leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove it.

          5. If it snows while you’re out of town, get a neighbor to create car and foot tracks into the house. Virgin drifts in the driveway are a dead giveaway. Doesn’t really apply to us here in Florida ;)

          6. If decorative glass is part of your front entrance, don’t let your alarm company install the control pad where I can see if it’s set. That makes it too easy.

          7. A good security company alarms the window over the sink. And the windows on the second floor, which often access the master bedroom—and your jewelry. It’s not a bad idea to put motion detectors up there too.

          8. It’s raining, you’re fumbling with your umbrella, and you forget to lock your door—understandable. But understand this: I don’t take a day off because of bad weather.

          9. I always knock first. If you answer, I’ll ask for directions somewhere or offer to clean your gutters. (Don’t take me up on it.)

          10. Do you really think I won’t look in your sock drawer? I always check dresser drawers, the bedside table, and the medicine cabinet.

          11. Here’s a helpful hint: I almost never go into kids’ rooms.

          12. You’re right: I won’t have enough time to break into that safe where you keep your valuables. But if it’s not bolted down, I’ll take it with me.

          13. A loud TV or radio can be a better deterrent than the best alarm system. If you’re reluctant to leave your TV on while you’re out of town, you can buy a $35 device that works on a timer and simulates the flickering glow of a real television. You can buy it here.

              Prostitutes more Trustworthy than Scientists

              Thursday 27 August 2009 @ 7:02 pm

china_prostituteA recent study shows that Chinese prostitutes are considered more trustworthy than government officials and scientists.

The online survey was given to exactly 3,376 Chinese people, of which 7.9% considered sex workers trustworthy, right behind farmers and religious workers.

The final results showed that scientists, teachers and government functionaries ranked really low on the list of trustworthy professions and that soldiers and students were ranked right after sex workers.

The least credible category consisted of real estate developers, secretaries, agents, entertainers and directors. [news.yahoo.com]

                Internet Addict Beaten to Death

                Tuesday 25 August 2009 @ 7:01 pm

web_addictNot sure if you are aware, but Internet addiction in China is BIG! And, Internet addiction rehab is BIGGER!

Recently, 16-year-old Deng Senshan was beaten to death by his three “supervisors” at an Internet rehabilitation center in southern China. All three supervisors have been arrested.

Apparently, the boy’s father paid about $1,000 to give his son a month’s worth of rehabilitation at the Guangxi Qihuang Survival Training Camp.

But instead of treatment, the boy’s father said that his son was put in solitary confinement shortly after his arrival and then beaten to death for running too slowly.

This is so sad. And for what, spending too much time online.

                Crazy stats:

                • China has the world’s largest number of Internet users with 338 million — more than the entire population of the United States
                • More than 10 million of the country’s 100 million teenage web surfers are Internet addicts

There is controversy over the treatments for Internet addiction and how it is diagnosed. The health ministry last month banned the use of electroshock therapy to treat Internet addiction. [tech.yahoo.com]

Women of True Blood Shop at Walmart

                  Friday 21 August 2009 @ 7:00 pm

Read an article at at In Style magazine online by Joyann King where she interviewed Jessica (the redhead) from HBO’s True Blood. Amazing show in case you haven’t seen it!

When asked what the “secret behind her wardrobe of adorable sundresses” was, Deborah Ann Woll (aka Jessica) said Walmart! You can find one of the dresses (pictured below) here.

Apparently the stylist on the show knows that in order for it to be realistic (set in Louisiana), the characters cannot wear designer clothes. So instead she buys stuff from Walmart and has them tailored to fit each character perfectly.

Less Sex, More TV in India

                    Friday 21 August 2009 @ 7:00 pm

Sex/LoveIndia’s new health and welfare minister has a new idea on how to tackle the country’s population (2nd largest in the world). His solution: bring electricity to every Indian village so that people will watch tv instead of making babies. Can you believe this?

With family planning and free contraceptive programs the Indian government has long tried to encourage families to have only two children. Numbers show that 14 of India’s 35 states have reached the two child per family target.

“But the push is failing in other states, especially in villages and among the poor and illiterate where the fertility rate is as high as 3.5 children per woman.”

“There are all kinds of reasons — from the desire to continue having children until a son is born to lack of access to contraceptives.”

“The government’s concern is that a booming population will further test already scarce resources, greatly impact the environment, and make life even harder for the poor.” [cnn.com]
