The Many Reasons Why Yogurt Is Good for Us
We call it yoghurt, yogurt, curd and so on, a dairy product made from the fermentation of milk by the addition of certain bacteria. Yogurt has long been a staple item of consumption the world over not only for its culinary versatility, but also because of its nutritional benefits and the fact that it can also help improve a number of health conditions and symptoms.
Excellent source of calcium and other nutrients
As most of us know, milk and milk products are a great source of calcium for the body, which helps strengthen teeth and bones and which is also needed for a number of other body functions.

Yogurt is also a very good source of protein which again is very important for the body and is considered to be the body’s building blocks.
It is also a good source of Riboflavin, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12.
Yogurt is thought to have nutritional benefits beyond that of milk, from which it is made.
Also unlike milk, yogurt can be tolerated even by those who are lactose intolerant. This is because lactose in milk (which cannot be digested by those who are lactose intolerant) gets converted into lactic acid by the process of fermentation.
A particular Georgian yogurt that is eaten widely in areas of Caucasus and Russia is thought to be responsible for the higher life expectancy of the populations in that area.
For weight loss
It has been seen that when low fat yogurt is used to supplement a person’s diet, this can help them to lose weight.
The yoghurt diet was seen to increase fat loss according to a study that observed subjects who were on a balanced diet. It was found that central adiposity was reduced during energy restriction of subjects.
This result is thought to be due to the calcium content of the yogurt.
For natural replenishment of friendly bacteria
Sometimes dietary disturbances or even certain medications, particularly antibiotics can cause depletion of friendly gut bacteria and hence may cause diarrhea. This kind of diarrhea that is caused by the depletion of friendly bacteria can be reversed by eating yoghurt.
It is also claimed that certain types of yeast infections caused by the overgrowth of unfriendly bacterial in the reproductive tract can be helped by eating or topical application of yogurt.
So clearly, there are a lot of reasons to eat yogurt – a tasty, versatile and healthful addition to any healthy diet.
